Secret Single Behaviors

Secret Single Behaviors

I've been neglecting this blog and social media lately because I spent the last 9 or 10 days being sick. Like pray-to-a-god-I-don't-believe-in kind of sick. I spent the earlier part of last week being convinced that I had contracted malaria from my recent trip to Cameroon (I don't) while hoping that it was just a tiny, short-lived illness that would pass in a few days (it didn't). The upside to being sick, however, is that it allowed me to take a couple of sick days during which I had the house to myself, and I was able to engage in some of my secret single behaviors. You know, the things I like to do when I have the house to myself. Here are some of my favorite secret single behaviors:

Secret Single Behaviors

Secret Single Behaviors

  • All the beauty maintenance activities: baths, eyebrows, whiten teeth, examining all the pores, mud masks, paint nails, etc.
  • Practice ballet and jazz: I love to dance across the hardwood in the living doing floor combinations. The living room isn't very big so I have to keep my moves pretty tight. This activity doesn't last long when I'm sick.
  • Watch all of Bravo's finest: Real Housewives of BH, OC, and NJ paired with a little Pump Rules = A+
  • And then watch an episode of Buffy. OR read one of my Buffy Season 8 or 9. Because yes, they exist and they are awesome.
  • Snack like a beast: All the yummies will be mine, completely guilt free. I'm talking Mac & Cheese, cookie dough, and wasabi peas. Not all at once, I promise.
    Secret Single Behaviors
  • If I don't leave the house, I don't leave my pajamas. Obviously.
  • Listen to Blow by Kesha on repeat. Best pump up song.
  • Be terrified that someone is trying to break into the house: To be fair, I experience this every day.
  • Speak my thoughts. To myself. Similar to talking to myself but less creepy … right?
  • Snuggle with a pillow when napping. We all do it, right?
  • Cry. Mostly over really touching episodes of Law & Order: SVU, Criminal Minds, etc.
  • Lose track of time in the black hole that is Pinterest. Followed by instagram. And then get angry when people aren't updating fast enough to keep up with my media consumption.

What are your favorite secret single behaviors

  • I adore this post! It made me laugh so much. But definitely not the part about you being sick :( I’m so sorry to hear that – I hope you are on the mend now! My secret single behaviour comes down to pretty much girly girl type things: like playing with my hair, makeup, doing my eyebrows, DIYing a mani/pedi, reading my magazines and spending way too much time on social media!

  • I’m sorry to hear you’ve been sick Nicole! Glad to have you back in the bloggy world!!

    Have a wonderful
    Wednesday!! :)

  • Hope you are feeling better. Glad it is not malaria!

  • hope you feel better soon, but this post was hilarious! i do so many of the same things when i’m at home by myself for a few hours. i’m glad i have a dog – he’s even more alert about the “break in” attempts than i am! :)

    xo. jenn @ hello, rigby!

    • oh I dog would make the breaking in thing much easier! Or more difficult because some dogs bark at everything, which would make me sacred all the time!

  • The last one. Lol. That’s me every day! By the time I’m ready to get rollin’ with social media, the rest of the world is asleep! #livinginasiaproblems ;)

  • Aww, feel better Nicole! I love that you’re rocking some tea, it’s been my latest craze too. More recently I’ve substituted coffee (I know..) for orange-ginger, I definitely recommend it. Take care! :)

  • being a “stay at home writer” means I get plenty of alone time in my apartment… and then my solitude is invaded when husband comes home. BUT good news for me, he love Buffy as much as I do :) hope you feel better soon!

    • oh I wish that my manfriend loved Buffy as much as I did. Major score.

and I’m all better, thank you!

  • This was me a few weeks ago, I was sure to catch up on all my favorite girly shows and those pjs didn’t come off!

  • I hope you feel better soon! That mac and cheese looks so good OMG I need to pack more boxes of kraft mac and cheese next time I’m home…

    • It was the first box that I bought since returning to the states. And it was absolutely the correct decision to make.

  • Definitely eating ALL the food! And talking to myself! And watching TV I’m usually embarrassed about!

  • Goodness I love having the place to myself, sick or not. Fortunately the boyfriend has long ago accepted that I’m a total weirdo so he doesn’t even bat an eye as I tell the imaginary camera all about the food I’m making and recite the recipe :p

    • haha, I love imagining you talking to a camera like you’re on your own cooking show. A+

  • Yes to all of these.
I am so glad you said it terrifies you someone will break in daily, I have exactly the same, totally irrational, fear! When I am on my own every strange noise puts me into ninja mode.

  • haha trash tv and all the snacks for sure. That mac and cheese looks amazing right now. I’m such a loser my at home alone time is spent organising things and cleaning and then relishing in the fact that the house is clean and organised until the boy gets back.

    • okay, I also do those things but excluded them from my list because this is not to secret behavior that I clean a lot. :)

  • All of these! But eating disgusting things for “meals” and not getting dressed especially! x

  • You do make being sick sound like fun… or rather, being home alone. I need to take better advantage of my time alone!

    • well, I usually spend most of my sick days trying not to die but when I’m feeling better try to have fun

  • Trash TV, talking to myself, face mask, bra and shorts… although some of those I do when I’m not alone, too. haha!

    • yes. yes. yes. sometimes I do things when I’m not alone but they just feel better when I’m hanging out by myself.

  • Not going to lie totally relate on all the bad bravo shows and thinking that someone is going to break in. The other day I swore I heard the door open as one of the RHO was on and freaked. It was just the wind, I went back to the show, my wine and my cheese and crackers!

  • Kristyn Carlin

Haha! These are great. And so true. When I am sick, I will do all the girly things I can’t do with Jeremy around. I love this list! I wish I danced more than I do. I need to work on that, like now!

  • Yes! I love having the apt all to myself- especially when I’m sick. Crazy thing is that I never got sick this past winter. Not once! Makes me want to pretend so I can justify spending a day at home being cozy. ;)

  • Rachel Murphree

I hope you feel better! I love these, and I do all of the above, especially when C is working long stretches. He’s going out of town tonight until Sunday, and I am so looking forward to the weird face masks and teeth whitening and trashy tv and frozen pizza. YESSSS!

  • Nicole, I love secret single behaviors! I have to add doing things like I was still in fifth grade, like eat popcorn and candy for dinner and listening to tween CDs on repeat. I hope you’re feeling better (and whew about the malaria, right?)

  • Boo to being sick! I live alone so I ALWAYS do this kind of stuff. Maybe I need to get a roommate to stop me from totally slipping into all the time behavor like this.

  • El-The Beauty Isle

I do this stuff on the daily since I live alone and it’s absolutely fabulous! :)

  • This made me laugh so hard because it’s basically all my exact same single behaviors. I do them a bit more regularly, though, since I work from home (hello, big fluffy robe I’m still wearing at noon on a Wednesday…)! I like to think I “speak my thoughts” to the guinea pigs, but that only makes it slightly less crazy/creepy than talking to myself…

    • at least you’re talking to another creature! ps I wish that I could live in a bathrobe. My least favorite time of day is when I change into real clothes.

  • I haven’t lived with a boyfriend in over 4 years and I have roommates who seen me at my worst. So all my behaviors are normal, well normal considering it’s like a frat house.

  • Maria Angelique

I watch Duck Dynasty, Swamp People and Moonshiners! lol. Shhhh…. don’t tell anyone.

    Maria @ Tulle

  • LOL I totally get angry when other people aren’t posting on social media fast enough when I’m bored! Also, I really want that bowl of mac&cheese to magically pop out of the screen and get in my belly!

    • I feel so weird being upset about social media as I refresh and refresh and refresh waiting for something good to happen!

  • Theresa

This is the best post! Sometimes, I secretly love when Andrew goes out of town or has softball games so I can do things like listen to country music really loud, do crafts, or eat an entire box of macaroni and cheese!

  • Angie

This is a great list! I also love face masks, nail painting and leaving dirty dishes in the sink until I am ready to wash!

  • ugh, the flu kicked my butt too; i hope you’re feeling much better!

i drink and binge watch shows. no one to bug me, no one to judge my shows!!

    Vodka and Soda

  • I love doing all of the above, and online shopping without getting a suspicious/disapproving look. I miss that!!

  • Pigging out solo is the best! No sharing! :)
Hope you’re feeling better quickly! :(

  • daniela k

    Bahaha I love this :)

  • hahah! I dance around my house too and of course it is in my pjs if I am not seeing the world.

    • I wonder how many people actually change out of PJs if they don’t have to leave the house. Seems pointless.

  • I totally get annoyed when social media can’t keep up with my consumption! Get busy people!

  • Glad you are feeling better! I do a lot of the same things….long baths (when I have a bathtub), not getting dressed, watching crappy TV, and eating junk food:)

  • Mary Krulia

PJs all day!! Hope you’re feeling better!

  • I hope you feel better soon! Being sick stinks, but at least you got to engage in these fun single lady behaviors. I love those rare nights when I have the house to myself, too:)

  • withluckblog

hahhaha I was actually staying at a hotel recently and I brought a whole bunch of beauty items to try out since it was like a little “ladies night” of my own! I hope you’re feeling better by now! Being that sick is the worsttttt

  • taylor

mine are: 1) eat, eat eat 2) talk to my dog 3) watch downton abbey. so we sort of have some overlaps :)

    • so I’ve actually never watched downton abbey. something tells me that I am making a huge mistake

  • I do a ton of talking out loud – or cat-conversations. It’s really the only way I can edit my writing as well, so I have tons of excuses why don’t want to go to the library (but it’s sort of legit? And you know, sweatpants are the added bonus to working from home!!!)

  • HAHAHA i almost do all of these and i am married! ain’t no shame!! :P

  • Next time I get sick, can I come to your house? Better yet, can I come over anytime and we can pretend like we’re sick??
