Every year my husband and I go on a vacation, or a what we call a “Mochi Moon,” a term we started after falling in love with the mochi in Japan. Some of these vacations, both domestic and abroad, are more romantic and others. Here are my top 6 romantic – but affordable! – couples travel experiences.

6 Romantic and Affordable Couples Travel Experiences
Ziplining Canopy Tour Costa Rica
Costa Rica was the first international travel experience that I shared with my husband (our first Mochi Moon). One of the highlights of the trip was doing a zipline over the canopy of the cloud forest in Monteverde. While you do most of the ziplines by yourself, you do have the opportunity to do the last one (that soars over the canopy) as a couple if you’re traveling with another person.
Cost: Usually about $45-50 depending on the company
Love Lock Bridge in Paris
If you’re into sentimental (yet slightly cheesy) romance, this is a must. Buy a lock, write messages of your undying love, and throw away the key. Just don’t think about the fact that it will probably be cut off the bridge within a short period of time.
Cost: less than $5 (for the lock)
Don’t mind playing the role of obnoxious tourist? The make your way over to New York at some point during the holidays. I loved ice skating around Rockefeller Center and seeing the giant Christmas tree. It’s another cheesy sort of romantic experience and I loved it.
Cost: $32 for adults during peak season (the holidays) plus $12 for skates if you need to rent them
Experience Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo, Japan
Head out into the middle of the crosswalk and take a second to pause. Everyone there is moving as quickly as possible but allow yourself to take a moment to yourselves in the middle of the chaos. I think that there is something really cool and incredibly romantic about being able to feel like it’s just the two of you in the middle of the busiest crosswalk in the world.
Wine Tasting in Franschhoek, South Africa
Wine tasting is the perfect activity to do with friends and family, but it’s also my favorite activity to do when my husband and I travel or when we are celebrating. One of my favorite wine tasting experiences, and my favorite as a couple, was doing a wine, cheese, and chocolate pairing in Franschhoek, South Africa (we went to the Franschhoek Cellars).
Want to do a romantic wine tasting but aren’t in Franschhoek, Napa, or Sonoma? There are a ton of different wine countries popping up around the United States and world. Here is a list of 9 underrated wine regions in the United States and 12 underrated wine regions in the world. Hands down the best couples travel experience!
Cost: Depending on the place, the wine tasting would be free or cost as much as $10-15. Add a cheese and chocolate tasting and you'll increase the price a bit more.
Watching the Sunrise and/or Sunset Over the Grand Canyon
This is a must for the nature-loving couples. Going to the Grand Canyon was on our couple bucket list for about 3 years before we got the chance to go. It was well worth the wait. Depending on where you are staying, you can catch the most amazing sunrise or sunset over the Grand Canyon.
