Love Yourself

love yourself

For a few weeks in February, most people are consumed with the thought of love. Romantic love, in most cases. Have it, want it, resent it, desire it, feel un/comfortable with it…. you name it and somebody is probably feeling it. I love love. Not just romantic love (although I’m pretty lucky to have a wonderful partner) but also the love for family, friends, strangers, and the world. That is why I’m pretty excited to start reading Love 2.0: How Our Supreme Emotion Affects Everything We Feel, Think, Do, and Become. The author, Barbara Fredrickson is a rockstar when it comes to research in emotions and positive psychology. But I digress.

While I’m off loving my partner, family, friends, strangers I pass on the street and the world in general, I often forget about loving myself.

I know that must sound extreme – that is the intention in some way. To be clear, I do love myself every day. But sometimes I forget to truly love and take care of myself the way I should / deserve. So as a reminder to myself (and hopefully a little corny inspiration to you), I pledge to truly love myself each day by:

♥ Getting enough sleep
♥ Slowing down when I’m overworking myself
♥ Drinking enough water
♥ Eating healthy food
♥ Exercising my mind and body
♥ Standing up for myself
♥ Voicing my needs
♥ Being honest
♥ Allowing time for myself
♥ Listening to my mind, body and soul
♥ Discovering and embracing my passions
♥ Respecting myself
♥ Reducing self-criticism
♥ Trusting myself
♥ Being happy for no reason other than being in love with life
♥ Recognizing my strengths and abilities
♥ Developing future strengths
♥ Loving

This is probably a different direction than Kristine was excepting with her Love Is… linkup, but sometimes we all need a little reminder of how awesome we are. And more importantly, that we should take time to celebrate and care for ourselves. So please remember to make time to love yourself each day. .

This linkup is coming at a perfect time. I am currently working with (/being sponsored by) WideAngle and beta testing their new App! So far, I’m loving the app but I’m not allowed to show you all the details yet (check back next week)! And during the first couple of weeks launching the app, WideAngle is giving away 1 camera for 4 weeks in their Love Is… contest. This week’s prize is a Nikon J3. To enter post a photo to instagram or twitter showing what love means to you and add #WAALove. The way I see it? Everyone who is participating in this link up can easily participate in this giveaway!

And now to you. How do you love yourself?

Linked with Love Is…,  Whatever, WheneverWhat I’m LovingRandom, Followers to Friends, Whims, and Whimsy Wednesdays.

This seems very timely. I had a moment last night of choosing to shut off the self-criticism and self-doubt (job hunting can do that.) and instead let my mind focus on the here and now, and did some of those little things- like putting on lotion etc., that I never remember to do enough. It is a funny, small thing but it really made a difference both in how I physically fel but in my thinking.

    Thanks for this great post.
