hello September

Oh September, what a bittersweet month. I’d be lying if I said that I’d miss the extreme heat of the desert during summer months, but something about the cooler, shorter days makes me a bit sad. Maybe because it means less beach days, or that school has started back up and I’ll be spending most of my days starting at a computer screen instead of frolicking outside. Regardless, there are a lot of things that I look forward to, and truly welcome this month:

  • Being able to ride my bike around town without feeling like I’m going to pass out from heat exhaustion.
  • The fact that I will be the only person at Starbucks not ordering a Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL, duh)
  • Being tricked into thinking that Southern California actually experiences Fall because my town of Claremont is full of non-native trees. What a shock it is to be surrounded by evergreens the moment I leave the town boarders
  • Trying to dress for Fall only to remember that it will probably remain in the high 80s, low 90s all month
  • Raiders Football!! No, seriously
  • Sitting at stop signs forever because the undergraduate students find the middle of the crosswalk intersection the perfect location to: talk of the phone; wave to their best friend; flirt with fellow 17 year-old freshman; take pictures of the beautiful colors on the non-native trees so that they can tell their friends/family back home that California DOES have an Autumn; seriously take 2 minutes longer than it should to cross a street
  • Attempting to bake apple pies with marginal success (read: edible with no chance of gagging)
  • Anxiously counting down the days until my favorite TV shows return
  • Spending hours looking at awesome gifs here and here (yes, still not over these sites, never will be) while listening to the OC soundtracks (1,2,4 & 6) instead of working on my thesis.
  • Seriously. Remember how great the music was from the OC? Here is the playlist. You’re welcome

I also am trying to dress for the ACTUAL weather, not the weather I wish it we were experiencing. You know warm sunshine but a little nip in the air, cold enough for boots…sighhh

Like your list! Like you, I’m not sure where I am generally experiences much of a fall. My senior year of college was the first time I think I felt like I’d experienced a real fall in WY (We usually go straight from 80-90 degree weather to snow. Well, and there’s always wind.) How surprised I was to realize it was my favorite time of year!

I especially loved going to the public library on fall days. Don’t know why the season made a difference bu it was cheering to walk out into the brisk air with a book in hand.

Boooooo raiders. Hahaha I had to heckle, it’s what we do. Also love that photo, it look oddly familiar… Was it an old header of yours?!

I agree – the music from the OC is pretty good (though I have stopped watching the show), I’m looking forward to bike rides in the spring/summer – was way too cold for it this winter! We have such crazy gusts of wind at the moment, I’m not sure how riders are staying on their bikes at the moment – almost everyone in Canberra bikes :)
