Summer Reads

Summer reading
Reading in the hammock with a glass of wine – what could be better than that? And since my current reading list will soon be made up of journal articles, I’m trying to fit in as much reading as possible.

Currents

  • Crossed (2nd book in the Matched Series)
  • The Host
  • Free Four : Tobias Tells the Divergent Story
  • Dead Until Dark
  • One for the Money (I’ve been reading this forever)

Recents

  • Divergent & Insurgent (so good!)
  • Gone Girl (also, so good!)
  • Matched (for those of you that loved the Divergent or Hunger Games series, this is another good -not great – series to read)

On the List

  • The Maze Runner
  • What Alice Forgot
  • Wife 22
  • Room

Have you read any good great books lately? Have any recommendations?
PS – I’m participating in a giveaway that Lauren is hosting. Check it out here.

The answer is nothing! Nothing is better than a hammock, wine and a good book :) I just read “The Age of Miracles” by Karen Thompson Walker and loved it!

We should do an informal book club ;) I need to jump on the divergent series! I haven’t fallen hard for a book since the Hunger Games (but I was late to the party).

I actually really enjoyed The Night Circus, which is pictured above (but not on a list?). I am also making my way through the Song of Fire and Ice series that the HBO series Game of Thrones is based on. Its fantastic, but I wouldn’t rec it unless you have lots of time. They are HUGE and there’s five books so far…

No, I don’t think it matters whether you read the series first, or watch it.

My favorites from this summer were The Art of Hearing Heartbeats (so great!), This is Where I Leave You (totally different, but equally great!), and Hector and the Search for Happiness. I have heard so much about Gone Girl…maybe when school winds down in the winter I’ll be able to pick it up!

I read Divergent and Insurgent in a weekend! I am slightly embarrassed I’ve become so enamored with these teen heroines, but I am completely obsessed. I really love the recent trend of female lead characters who are smart, brave, and capable, instead of the tired schtick of damsel in distress. It’s a great thing for young girls, and I’m excited for the change.

I’m in the middle of reading Gone Girl. So far, so good! I recently read The Fault of our Stars (So heartbreaking, but great. Loved it.) I also read Let the Great World Spin, which I loved for its rich characters and beautiful writing.

Slowly whittling away my summer reading list. Up next is The Lifeboat and Age of Miracles. Do you use Goodreads? I love it. Here’s mine: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/2752272-johanna-ehnle

I liked the Matched series as well, but am excited to see how it all wraps up. I’m putting the Night Circus on my list because it looks amazing!

I’m not a Stephenie Meyer fan but I’ve been really interested in reading The Host. Read a sample of it on my Nook and it seems interesting enough.

I never made it through One for the Money either – I ended up just watching the movie. Which, though not fantastic, had a few amusing moments! I didn’t make it all the way through The Host either, so I’d be interested to hear what you think once you’re done!

Thanks for linking up with us this week!
