Guest Post: S’mores Krispies (Niki @ Gumdrops & Gloss)

While I’m away soaking up the sun freezing my butt off in Alaska this week, I have a bunch of fabulous guest posts from some of my favorite bloggers. Today Niki from Gumdrops & Gloss is here to share her fantastic recipe for s’mores krispies! Followers of Treasure Tromp have probably noticed that I don’t post a lot of recipes (since I am disaster int he kitchen), so I’m beyond happy that Niki is haring a little bit of baking love today.

Hi Treasure Tromp readers!  I’m Niki, and I blog over at Gumdrops & Gloss.  I’m SO excited to be guest posting for you fine people today, and want to thank the lovely Nicole very, very much for having me!

First of all, a little about me ~ I’m a newleywed, an MBA student, and a momma to 2 dogs and 1 cat (all rescues!).  I have a teeny tiny shopping addiction, especially when it comes to beauty products, fashion, jewelry, shoes… um ok, everything.  I also love to bake.  That’s actually where the name for my blog comes from!  Gumdrops for my sugar obsession and gloss for my beauty product obsession.  :)

perfect example ~ all done up and stuffing my face

Speaking of sugar, today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite recipes for summertime – s’mores krispies!

What are s’mores krispies, you ask?  Well, they’re just like rice krispies, but made with Golden Grahams and Hershey Bars and covered in a layer of chocolate!

Ready to dig in?  Here goes.

I used the original Golden Grahams recipe and modified as follows…

Ingredients

8 cups (approx. 13 oz) Golden Grahams cereal
1/3 cup butter or margarine
6 cups (approx 10.5 oz) mini marshmallows
1 – 1.55 oz Hershey Bar, cut into small pieces and frozen
5- 1.55 oz Hershey Bars at room temperature (you can usually find a packaged 6-pack in the bulk candy aisle of the grocery store)

Directions

Melt the butter and marshmallows in a 6-quart saucepan over low heat.  This will take some time, so be patient.  It’s not a good idea to turn up the heat to quicken the process because the marshmallows can easily burn.

Once the mixture is completely melted, remove from the heat and stir in the Golden Grahams, just a few at a time, until completely covered in the mixture.  Add the frozen Hershey Bar pieces and blend together.

Pour the mixture into a baking pan and let cool completely.  (For this recipe, I used a rectangular pan; but you can make larger s’mores krispies by using a smaller square pan.)

Once the mixture has completely cooled, break up the remaining Hershey Bars and melt in the microwave, adding only one bar at a time.  This will take approximately 3 – 4 minutes; but be sure to stop every 30 seconds to stir.  This will ensure that your chocolate is smooth, not lumpy and well, kind of gross.

Pour the chocolate over the cooled krispies and smooth evenly with a spatula.

Place in the refrigerator to cool, about an hour.

Cut, serve, and eat!

The sweet graham flavor of the Golden Graham’s cereal mixed with the chewy marshmallow and creamy chocolate will make you feel like a kid again… or make your kids feel like, well, kids!

I hope you enjoyed my post today!  Feel free to stop by Gumdrops & Gloss anytime and say hello!  I love to make new friends!
